Online therapy can be tremendously enriching if certain minimum requirements are met. I always mention motivation to work and change first, but I don’t want to overlook certain practical aspects that provide the necessary conditions for conducting sessions via Google Meets or Skype:

ree
  • Good internet connection.

  • Having video call programs pre-installed: Google Meets, Skype, Hangouts, etc.

  • Connecting from a place with maximum privacy, without anyone else in the room.

  • Avoiding interruptions and noise.

  • Adequate lighting.

  • The same punctuality as if the session were held in person.

Meeting these requirements will allow us to maximize verbal and non-verbal communication quality and consequently the session's benefits.

Additionally, I usually recommend my patients have a "therapy" notebook or journal on hand to jot down impressions, learnings, or interesting content that we address in sessions and that they can work on.

And of course, the willingness to open yourself and build a collaborative, trustworthy relationship together with your therapist!

If you are interested and can meet these requirements, don’t hesitate to contact a licensed professional of reference. Take that first step forward and get rid of limits!
